The next generation is in the 1960’s. In the early 60’s, everything was about Motown. Artists like the Beatles, the Supremes, and the rolling stones started up, and made songs that topped charts everywhere. In the later half of the decade, music started to include political statements, and gave people more of a voice towards the war and the government. The first outdoor music festival was held in 1967, and was known as the Monterey Pop Festival. All kinds of music where played, and over 55,000 people per day came for the three day concert. In the summer of 1969, another music festival called Woodstock Music and Art Fair was held in Bethel, New York. 500,000 people from all over the country came for the three days, and it is known for one of the biggest festivals held in history (Monroe, Marina).
The Beatles dominated the music industry throughout the 60’s with 6 top ten albums, and 21 top 100 singles. The band members included George Harrison as lead guitarist, Paul McCartney on bass, John Lennon on the rhythm guitar, and Ringo Starr as the drummer.
